1.EAM Sushma Swaraj Goodwill Visit to Nepal


External Affairs Minister (EAM) Sushma Swaraj has returned home after successful completion of the goodwill visit to Nepal. This was the first high-level visit from India after completion of historic three-tier elections in Nepal. In her first meeting, Swaraj held talks with CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda. EAM also held discussions with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba and Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal, Chairman Upendra Yadav.

2.PM Modi Inaugurates Global Investment Summit in Assam


The first two-day Global Investment Summit has been organized in Assam. The summit emphasises on promoting investments in the state and the North East. The conference was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Businessmen like Ratan Tata and Mukesh Ambani are taking part in the Summit. Investor's from Bhutan, Bangladesh, Germany and Japan as well as ASEAN countries will attend the summit.

3.Arun Jaitley launches India's first sentiment index ‘CriSidEx’

Today, the Union Finance Minister ‘Arun Jaitley’ has inaugurated India’s first sentiment index ‘CriSidEx’ for micro and small enterprises developed jointly by SIDBI and CRISIL in New Delhi. This index will give the detailed breakup of the sentiment sentiments and analysis as the sector sees it for the current quarter and for the next quarter. The current parametric feedback was captured through a survey of one thousand one hundred MSEs in November and December last year.

CriSidEx is a composite index based on a diffusion index of eight parameters and measures MSE business sentiment on a negative to positive scale.


4.Shyam Benegal Awarded V Shantaram Lifetime Achievement Award


Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) committee has decided to bestow V. Shantaram lifetime achievement Award to veteran film producer and director Shyam Benegal. The award will be presented at concluding ceremony of MIFF in Mumbai. He will be awarded a trophy, cash price of 10 lakh rupees, a certificate and a shawl by Governor of Maharashtra C. Vidyasagar Rao.


5.Assam Govt signs MoU with NBCC for construction of Twin Tower Trade Centre

Assam Government has signed a MoU with the National Building Construction Corporation Limited (NBCCL) to build a Twin Tower Trade Centre in Guwahati at a cost of Rs. 1950 crores. The center has enacted a pro-active ‘Act East Policy’ to elevate and harness the strengths of North- East India and reduce the isolation of the region by improving all-round connectivity and civic infrastructure.

This trade center will generate once established and made operational, by connecting us with South East Nations and being a major trading hub thereby increasing economic interlinkages.



1.India lift Under-19 Cricket World Cup for record fourth time

India has defeated Australia to lift the Under 19 World cup for the fourth time. The Men in Blue defeated the three-time champions Australia at Bay Oval, New Zealand. The Australian team had set the target of 217 runs and was chased down easily by India. Manjot Kalra was the Hero of the match with his brilliant century.

Manjot Kalra was declared Man of the Match.

Shubman Gill was declared Player of the Tournament.

Anukul Roy finished the 2018 edition with joint-highest 14 wickets.

India was the earlier winner in 2000, 2008 and 2012.



1.Retail inflation for industrial workers rises to 4% in Dec

According to the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Retail inflation for industrial workers rose to 4% for December 2017 due to increase in the price of certain food items and electricity charges. The food inflation stood at 4.32% in December last year against 3.91% of November.

The year-on-year inflation measured by monthly Consumer Price Index-Industrial Workers (CPI- IW) as compared to 3.97% of the previous month. The maximum downward pressure to the change in current index came from food group contributing 2.37% points to the total change.
